Lucknow, May 20: BSP workers allegedly roughed up a group of Dalit youths who went to meet party chief Mayawati on Tuesday.

The group comprising 79 youths, who have been denied posting after being selected to the post of assistant review officials in the Uttar Pradesh state secretariat, sought an audience with the BSP chief to take up the matter with her.

The youths were roughed up by BSP activists in front of the party office here where Mayawati was holding meeting to review the party's dismal performance in the just-concluded Lok Sabha polls, Rajendra Prasad said.

Prasad is the general secretary of the Sahayak Samiksha Adhikari Seedhi Bharti Sangharsh Morcha, an organisation which is spearheading an agitation on behalf of the youths who were selected for the posts by the UP Public Service two years ago.

All the injured were provided medical aid and discharged, he said. Prasad said the youths had been selected for secretariat services in 2012 and it was communicated to the state government, but they had not been posted till date.

Prasad alleged that they had failed to get a favourable response to their problems as they are Dalits. He also alleged that Mayawati, who claims to espouse the cause of Scheduled Castes, has no time for them.

According to government sources, these youths were denied posting as the vacancies, for which they were selected, had already been filled up.
