Christians across the country expressed sympathy for the 74-year-old nun who was gangraped by suspected burglars who stormed into the convent and looted as much as Rs 12 lakh rupees.

On Monday, thousands marched on the streets of Kolkata to protest the heinous crime committed against the elderly nun.

The police so far have detained eight persons in connection to the case. But that has not impressed many. The archbishop said it was good that the district police and the Crime Investigation Department were jointly probing the gangrape case but it was disappointing that no arrests had been made so far.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's convoy was stopped by protesters against the rape near Ranaghat on Monday evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too sought immediate report on the facts and the action taken in the case.
