Assembly Polls 2016 Coverage; What 1.5% NOTA in Bengal says

Banerjee registered the second narrowest victory of her political career this time as she beat her nearest rival---Deepa Dasmunshi of the Congress-Left alliance by 25,301 votes. Her narrowest victory is against CPI(M) leader Somnath Chatterjee in the 1984 Lok Sabha election---her first---when she won by 19,660 votes. [Mamata has lost only 1 election till date]

In 2011, Banerjee defeated her nearest rival by 54,000 votes in a by-election to become the MLA for the first time. [Verdict also a caution for Mamata, Jaya]

Interestingly, if one adds up the number of votes garnered by the Congress-Left alliance and the BJP (Netaji Subhas Bose's grand-nephew Chandra Bose contested for the saffron party againsr Banerjee), then it is more than Banerjee's tally of 65,550 votes.

While Dasmunshi polled 40,219 votes, Bose got 26,299 ballots---the combine of which gives the figure of 66,518---968 more than that of Banerjee.

BJP was ahead in Bhabanipur segment in 2014 LS poll

In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the BJP stayed ahead of the TMC in the Bhabanipur Assembly segment, which falls under Banerjee's earlier Lok Sabha constituency---Kolkata South.
