Bengal polls 2016: When Mamata regretted being born in Bengal

Kolkata, April 21: One of her candidates Abdur Rezzaq Mollah told a news channel that celebrity politicians are of no use and even made an under-the-belt attack on BJP's actor-politician Roopa Ganguly.

Two days after that incident which earned Mollah and his party brickbats, Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee said at an election rally in Dum Dum in North Kolkata that having been born in Bengal, sometimes she feels it would have been better if she was not born at all.

The remark, which the CM made while referring to the "slander campaign" against her, found a prominent display in The Telegraph daily published from Kolkata on Thursday. [This Bengal election has become a bhadrolok vs 'chhotolok' contest]

It was questioned that many in the state feel the same like the chief minister, particulary after what her own party candidate uttered against Ganguly. The BJP candidate told the media that women's dignity has no value in the era of a woman chief minister in Bengal and said the women will give this an apt reply. In another development, Congress spokesperson Sarmistha Mukherjee, daughter of President Pranab Mukherjee, said various incidents that happened in the last five years make her feel unsafe and ashamed as a wpman, an ABP Ananda report said.
