Bengal polls 2016: Come out of your home and vote, Roopa Ganguly asks voters

Howrah, April 25: Actor-politician Roopa Ganguly, who is contesting this year's Assembly election in West Bengal on the BJP's ticket, courted controversy on Monday (April 25) by asking people to come out of their houses and vote.

"Come out and vote for whoeever you want. Don't sit at home," Ganguly was found saying while walking around on the roads of her constituency Howrah North. She is contesting against the Trinamool Congress's cricketer-turned-candidate Laxmi Ratan Shukla and veteran Congress candidate Santosh Pathak. [Phase 4: Make-or-break for BJP]

Ganguly, who is rememebered for portraying the role of Draupadi in BR Chopra's Mahabharat serial in the late 1980s, was also seen greeting people on the roads, compelling the Opposition to accuse her of trying to influence the voters. [Morphed Rajnath-Karat photo: Does TMC lack common sense?]

The actor-politician, who is contesting her first-ever election, also accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of rigging inside a booth in another incident. She said her party had information about supporters of the ruling party planning to rig the election on Sunday night and took all preventive steps to stop it.

Ganguly was also seen getting involved in an argument with some TMC supportes inside a booth in her constituency.
