Ernakulam Bar Association has decided to boycott newspapers starting Saturday after the general body unanimously passed a resolution on Friday demanding that media personnel be stopped from entering court premises. The resolution comes as a result of the ongoing standoff between lawyers and journalists in Kerala.

The resolution also appealed to the district judge that only accredited media personnel be allowed to report on court proceedings and appealed to all lawyers to boycott newspaper subscriptions from Saturday until the issue is resolved.

Friday's resolution also said that no lawyer will represent media persons in court and extended the association's full support to those lawyers accused in cases related to the dispute. The resolution passed by the general body also states that a 5-member panel will work towards bringing 'facts' of the case before the people.

The standoff between lawyers and media personnel in Kerala began after lawyers started asking journalists to leave court halls on multiple occasions and obstructed reporting in July this year.

Journalists in Kerala believe that lawyers started troubling them following a media report on a government pleader allegedly misbehaving with a woman in Kochi.
