In April a terrible tragedy occurred at the Puttingal temple in Kerala in which 110 persons died after a fire works show went awry. In the tragedy over 400 persons had died.

Following the incident the Kerala government announced both a judicial inquiry as well as a probe by the Crime Branch.

It was found that several authorities in the temple had ignored warnings and went ahead with the fire works show. The probe had also found that the requisite precautions had not been taken.

Following this incident a major debate had sparked off in which a section had sought for a ban on fire works. However later on it was decided that high decibel fire works would not be permitted and more safety measures would be introduced.
