Kanpur: Woman duped of Rs 16,000

Kanpur, Feb 4: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly duped of Rs 16,000 after she applied for a job in response to a fake advertisement put out by a call center here claiming it to be under the Centre's 'Skill Development Mission'.

The victim, Hazra Kaynat Ansari, had applied for the job in Jajmau area here, police said today.

She was asked by the call center officials to deposit Rs 2,500 as registration fee on January 6 and later asked to pay an additional sum of Rs 13,000 as security money on January 19, they said, adding that the victim deposited the amount in a bank.

However, the call center officials stopped responding to Hazra's calls after the money was deposited, police said.

The victim filed a complaint with Kanpur SSP Shalabh Mathur yesterday. Police said that an inquiry has been ordered into the matter.
