Kuwait City, July 24: The world witnessed its hottest day ever on Thursday (July 21) when the mercury in West Asian country of Kuwait shot up to a blistering 54-degree Celsius (129.3F).

The temperature was recorded at a weather station in Mitribah, a remote area in north-west Kuwait, last week in the middle of an intense heatwave. Also in the ancient city of Basra in neighbouring Iraq, the temperature shot to 53.9-degree Celsius (129F).

The two above-recorded temperatures, if verified by the World Meteorological Organisation, will be the two highest ever recorded on earth, said a Guardian report.

It said the official record for the highest record so far has been 56.7 degree Celsius (134.1F) which was recorded on July 10, 1913, at Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley in California, the United States, but many modern meteorologists refuse to acknowledge it to be perfectly recorded for the equipment then were not flawless, the report added.
