Video: Penguin promoted as Brigadier by Norway King's Guard
Edinburgh, Aug 23: Have ever seen a penguin receiving a military salute? It's most unlikely but not impossible for a king penguin called Sir Nils Olav III was recently promoted to the position of Brigadier in the Royal Norwegian Guard.
The penguin, which is an inhabitant of the Edinburgh zoo, was conferred the prestigious title during a special ceremony at the zoo. Fifty Norwegian guardsmen were present on the occasion.
Sir Olav Nils III walked down the line of soldiers at attention and was presented with an insignia. He was also saluted by an officer. The zoo authorities said the penguin had worked hard for the occasion, a BBC report said.
Sir Nils was awarded a knighthood by Norway's King Harald V in 2008.
Edinburgh zoo authorities said Sir Olav III has a high respect among the Norwegian guardsmen and has been rewarded for his good service and conduct.
