US university to confer Narendra Modi with honorary doctorate
The Southern University System of Louisiana has decided to confer an honorary doctorate to Narendra Modi for his work in inclusive growth.
As per the University website, the university board met on Thursday in the Baton Rouge Campus and approved that Modi will be conferred with a doctorate.
A statement issued by the university said that they were impressed with Modi's work in Gujarat while he was the CM. The degree is in recognition of Modi's contritbution to social development, especially empowering women and the minorties in the state.
The university also considered the work done by Modi in first 100 days as the Prime Minister of India.
The univeristy has also invited Modi to be the Commencement Speaker for Fall 2015 Commencement. Modi will arrive in the US on Thursday as part of his five-day trip. He will address the United Nations General Assembly on Sept 27.
