US: 16-year-old student opens fire at a Santa Clarita school, two dead

Los Angeles, Nov 14: Two died at a school near Los Angeles after a 16-year-old student opened fire on Thursday. The shooter, a student of the Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, was reportedly armed with a handgun.

He is said to have shot himself in the after opening fire at other students. He survived and has been rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

Two victims died and at least one other is in critical condition, NBC Los Angeles reported

NBC Los Angeles quoted Sgt. Bob Boese of the LA County Sheriff's Department as saying that "We have multiple victims down".

"This is an active shooter situation. If you live in neighbourhoods anywhere near Saugus High, PLEASE LOCK DOORS and stay inside. If you see suspect, male dark clothing, in backyards, etc. CALL 911," said a tweet from the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's office.

Around 2,300 students study at the school. Santa Clarita is around 60 kms from Los Angeles.
