United States President Donald Trump is set to receive two high-profile guests at the White House this week and the course of the international affairs will be influenced considerably by the outcomes of these two events.

US President Trump set to receive 2 high-profile European guests this week

Trump's first guest will be his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte and their visit will culminate in the first state dinner of the Trump presidency at the White House on Tuesday, April 24.

On Friday, April 27, German Chancellor Angela Merkel will set her foot in the US.

Macron, who came to power last year, said ahead of his US visit that he shared a strong relation with Trump since he is also a maverick like the latter and stunned the political establishment with their electoral victories.

Macron's agenda: Iran & climate deal

An Axios news report said that Macron was hoping to convince Trump to work with Europe to fix the nuclear deal on Iran and not shred it next month by reimposing sanctions on the West Asian country.

Trump has blasted the deal which was reached at during the Barrack Obama era while Iran has warned that it would come up with expected and unexpected reactions if Washington withdrew from the deal.

Trump has set May 12 as the deadline for either improving or scrapping the N-deal.

Macron, who joined the US and UK recently to conduct missile attacks on Syria's nuclear facilities as retaliation to dictator Bashar al-Assad's alleged use of chemical weapons against his own people, is also reportedly working hard behind the scenes to convince Trump to take the US back to the negotiating table on the climate change. Trump withdrew his country from the deal last year accusing the deal to be unfair to his country.

The Axios report added that people who were close to Trump were not optimistic about Macron's mission.

Merkel to visit the US on April 27

Also in connection with the Merkel visit, Axios said Trump's ambassador-to-Germany-in-waiting Ric Grenell was recently spotted at Mar-a-Lago in Florida where Trump met Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe recently. Grenell was seen speaking to Trump over a substantial period and being introduced around.

Trump was reportedly impatient over the delay in confirming Grenell's appointment and said in his close quarters that he wanted to get Grenell in place before Merkel arrived in the US.

Merkel is not known to be sharing the best of rapport with Trump. She said on Sunday, April 22, the need to focus on free trade and welcomed an agreement between the European Union and Mexico on a fresh trade agreement in less than a week before visiting the US.

Trump has regularly hit out the Mexicans and threatened to scuttle pacts like Nafta and Daca if the neighbours did not stop the illegal immigrants who are allegedly entering the US territory from the South.

Russia is also likely to come up in the discussion between Merkel and Trump.
