Iraq: ISIL steals nuclear material
Baghdad, July 11: After taking over many regions in Iraq, the Islamic Statement of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) are said to have taken over nuclear material that was allegedly kept for research purposes at the Mosul University.

According to a report in Reuters, Iraq's ambassador to the UN told UN Secretary General Ban Ki- Moon that approximately 40 kg of Uranium was seized from the university. Officials fear that the nuclear material may be used by the terrorist organization to produce weapons of mass destruction.

Officials also say that militants may try to smuggle the materials out of Iraq.

UN has now turned to the international community for help.

Meanwhile, BBC reported that the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) spokesperson Gill Tudor has said that the nuclear material seized by the ISIL will not present a significant safety, security or nuclear proliferation risk.
