UK toes Trump's line, considers sending more troops to Afghanistan

As terror attacks spiral in Afghanistan where the US-led West is engaged in almost a 17-year war, the UK is considering sending more troops to the war-ravaged country after US President Donald Trump sought the Nato players to "pay their fair share", reports said on Friday, May 18.

The country's defence secretary Gavin Williamson has reportedly written to Prime Minister Theresa May to send 400 more soldiers to Afghanistan to assist the 600 already present there, training the local forces to tackle insurgents.

The latest development shows the UK toeing the US's line of action. Last year in August, Trump had announced that Washington would send an additional 3,500 troops to Afghanistan to fight the Taliban. The US president has also cautioned the Nato members to fulfil their respective commitments to the security organisation's expenditure.
