Twin blasts in Nigerian market kill dozens
Abuja, July 17: At least 30 people were killed when twin blasts ripped through a market in Nigerian city of Gombe, media reported on Friday.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blasts, which took place around 5:30 p.m. local time (1630 GMT), but suspicion is likely to fall on Boko Haram, Al-Jazeera reported.
The bomb went off when the market was flooded with Eid shoppers. People were busy doing their last minute shopping marking the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
The group has attacked the city several times during a six-year insurgency that has killed thousands.
Suicide bombing kills four in Nigeria
"I have 30 bodies in bags and I am sure there are more out there," said the Red Cross official on condition of anonymity.
Gombe is situated near the states of Borno, Yobo and Adamawa, which have been most affected by the Boko Haram insurgency. Gombe's market and bus station have in recent months already been targeted by bomb and suicide attacks.
