Turkey wedding attack toll crosses 50
Ankara, Aug 22: The death toll in the suspected suicide bombing in a wedding party in Gaziantep city in southern Turkey on Saturday (Aug 20) reached over 50, the local authorities said. Many were injured and were undergoing treatment in various hospitals.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suspected the Islamic State (IS) terror attack behind the attack. He said the suicide bomber who attacked the wedding party was a child aged between 12 and 14 but wasn't sure whether it was the child who had detonated the explosive or it was done remotely.
Turkish authorities were trying to find more evidence about the bomber's identity, said an Al Jazeera report. It also said that it is first time the terror outfit used a child in a suicide bombing.
Gaziantep is located just 60 kilometres from the Syria border and has become a hub for Syrians leaving their country because of the civil war.
