The Donald Trump administration is in an ethical mess again. Days after the US president denying any knowledge of his private counsel Michael Cohen paying hush money worth $130,000 to porn actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election to remain silent about her alleged affair and sexual encounter with Trump more than a decade ago, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani said that Trump had indeed given Cohen to money which was used to pay off Daniels. He said the money was "funneled it through the law firm" and Trump "repaid them".

In an interview to Fox News on Wednesday, May 2, Giuliani also defended the pay saying it was "perfectly legal" for it was "not campaign money" and there was no "campaign finance violation".

Giuliani, who recently joined Trump's team to fast settle the investigation on alleged collusion between Trump and Russia during the 2016 election by special counsel Robert Mueller. He came aboard following the exit of Trump's former counsel John Dowd.

Trump's denial of knowledge about the secret payment had earlier sparked a controversy and calls came up to file a lawsuit against him.

When the White House was approached over Giuliani's revelations by Fox News, Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said it was a litigation underway and referred the queries to Trump's outside lawyer, MSN reported.

Giuliani reiterated his words of Trump paying Cohen back the money and that it was not any violation in another interview later on Wednesday - this time with The Wall Street Journal.

He also said that his words contradicting what Trump said on board Air Force One in April was not an issue. As per the WSJ, Giuliani said Trump perhaps wasn't aware of when Cohen made the payment to Daniels.

Giuliani's revelations made Daniels's lawyer happy. He said it was something they had predicted and it is something over which each American should be outraged, Avenatti told CNBC, the Guardian reported.
