The turtle who swallowed 1,000 ‘good-luck’ coins!
A 3D scan revealed that she also had two fish hooks lodged inside her, which were removed too.
Tossing a coin in a pool turned out to be terrible luck for a green sea turtle who consumed nearly 1,000 coins that were thrown into her pool. All this currency eventually formed a heavy ball in her belly, weighing nearly 5Kg, and cracked her shell, causing a life-threatening infection.
Omsin, the turtle, swallowed the coins over a number of years that the tourists threw in her pond in then town of Sri Racha in Thailand.
According to AP, "Five surgeons from Chulalongkorn University's veterinary faculty patiently removed the coins over four hours while 'Bank' was under general anaesthesia. The stash was too big to take out through the 10-cm (4-inch) incision they had made, so it had to be removed a few coins at a time. Many of them had corroded or partially dissolved."
