Suu Kyi to run foreign ministry
Yangon, March 22: Myanmar's president-elect Htin Kyaw nominated Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi to join the incoming cabinet on Tuesday, giving the National League for Democracy leader a formal role in the government that the constitution bars her from leading.
Suu Kyi, whose party won historic elections in Myanmar, was barred from the presidency herself and had been widely expected not to take a ministry.
There was no other women appointed to the cabinet.
Myanmar's constitution, drafted by the outgoing military rulers, prevents Suu Kyi from becoming president because her two sons have British passports.
