The rescuers worked day and night to reach the toddler after he fell into a 300-feet deep borehole which is only 25 centimetres wide and blocked with soil while going out with his family on a picnic at a private estate in Totalan, Málaga, on January 13. Early on Saturday, January 26, the provincial government of Malaga confirmed that the rescue members found the body of the toddler and that a judicial commission has been formed to look into the tragedy, the Guardian reported.

The narrowness of the hole and hard soil prevented the rescuers to reach the boy faster. It was also the second heart-breaking tragedy for Julen's family as they had lost their older son Olivier also in May 2017 to heart ailment. He was only three at the time of his death.

"His parents spoke out this week, expressing their hope that Oliver is now watching over his little brother from heaven," reported Spain's local media.
