Shooting outside UK Parliament, 5 dead, 20 injured

At least two dozen people have been injured in the firing on the Westminster bridge near the UK Parliament. The police say that they are treating this as a firearms incident.

London, March 22: There are reports of shots being fired outside the Houses of Parliament in London. The BBC reported that the Palace of Westminster is reportedly in lockdown.

Reports say that the gunman has been shot dead by the police. The police officer who was stabbed inside UK Parliament in central London died. Police said that in all five people have died in London attack including one police officer and the attacker; while 20 were injured.

The incident occurred when the Parliament was in session. The Prime Minister Terrsa May is safe her spokesperson said.

Journalists are tweeting about hearing loud crashes outside the buildings. Witnesses have said that they saw people being treated for injuries. The staff inside the Parliament were told to stay inside.

The BBC's Laura Kuenssberg said police told her someone had been shot and MPs said they heard "three or four gunshots". Scotland Yard said it was called to a firearms incident on Westminster Bridge amid reports of several people injured.

Transport for London said Westminster underground station has been shut at the police's request.

In the wake of London attack British PM Theresa May held an emergency security meeting. India strongly condemns Westminster terrorist incident and condoled the loss of life. Ministry of External Affairs on the attack said, there is no place in democracies and civilised societies for terrorism.

Meanwhile French president has confirmed that French students have been hurt in London attack. CBS News reported that, New York Police is bringing in heavy weapons to Grand Central, City Hall and other locations in wake of attack near UK Parliament.
