GOP Convention turns ugly as Ted Cruz faces insults for not endorsing Trump
Cleveland, July 21: The Republican Party, which has been deeply polarised in this election year over the support for New York business tycoon Donald Trump, witnessed yet another low point on Wednesday (July 20)---the penultimate day of its convention which started here on Monday (July 18).
This time, it was centred around Texas Senator and one of Trump's fiercest rivals in the race to grab the nomination for the November 8 general election.
An uproar broke out after it became clear that Cruz was in no mood to endorse Trump, who was eventually nominated as the Republican candidate for the election, and as hundred of delegates shouted "Vote for Trump!" and "Say It", he tried to see it as "enthusiasm of the New York delegation"---as per a New York Times report.
Trump himself was not far from Cruz as he was seen greeting and thanking delegates and supporters at the back of the convention hall.
Even Cruz's wife Heidi was not spared
Cruz was booed as he sought God's blessing on the country and left the stage. The upset supporters even booed and yelled at Heidi, the wife of Cruz who was escorted by the security members. Heidi had also seen her name getting dragged in the ugly spat that had cropped up between Cruz and Trump during the primaries. Even Trump's wife Melania Trump was not spared as a nude photograph of the former model became the source of a political controversy. To those listening, please don't stay home in November. If you love our country, stand and speak and vote your conscience #RNCinCLE

If we stand together and choose freedom, our future will be brighter. We can do this. #RNCinCLE

We're fighting not for one particular candidate or campaign, but for our kids' future and for our country #RNCinCLE

Cruz also faced insults as one woman called him a "Traitor" while he was turned away from entering the convention suite of a Las Vegas casion magnate, the NYT said.
The unpleasant scenes at the Republican Convention reminded many of the year 1964 when a moderate Republican Nelson Rockefeller was heckled for criticising Barry Goldwater---the party's nominee that year---in his speech in the convention.
