Johannesburg, July 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reached South Africa on Wednesday (July 25) for the last leg of his three-nation tour of Africa which included Rwanda and Uganda, will address the 10th BRICS summit here on Thursday, July 26.

The theme for the current summit is 'BRICS in Africa - collaboration for inclusive growth and shared prosperity in the 4th industrial revolution' and it commemorates the birth centenary of iconic anti-Apartheid leader Nelson Mandela.

Besides Modi, the heads of the four other BRICS countries - Brazil, Russia, China and host South Africa - will participate in the meeting. The leaders will discuss issues pertaining to global developments, international peace and security, trade, etc.

The three-day summit kicked off on Wednesday with the BRICS Business Summit Meet. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa gave the keynote address in which he said the BRICS nations saw the completion of a decade of their cooperation this year and they have made achievements like formation of a New Development Bank which helps with project funding.

Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of other participating nations, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Modi held informal talks with both these leaders in their respective countries earlier this year to normalise relations in an age when the US's protectionist policies have left the international community worried.

This summit will also see a BRICS leaders' retreat where they will review the groupings' cooperation over the last decade and on the future prospects.
