The Grand Collar of the State of Palestine conferred on PM Modi for his international stature

During the visit, PM Modi will inaugurate work on establishing the Palestine Institute of Diplomacy, which India is helping to build through a US$ 4.5 million aid.

In a recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's contribution to relations between India and Palestine, President Mahmoud Abbas conferred the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine on him after the conclusion of the bilateral meeting. The Grand Collar is Highest order given to foreign dignitaries.

Commendation of Grand Collar read,"in recognition of his wise leadership, lofty national & international stature, in appreciation of his efforts to promote historic relations between Palestine & India; in acknowledgement of his support to our people's right to freedom so peace prevails in region".

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded ceremonial guard of honour at Al-Muqata'a, the compound of the presidential headquarters in Palestine's Ramallah on his historic visit on Saturday.

PM Modi arrived in Palestine's Ramallah from Amman, Jordan. He is the first prime minister to visit Palestine. On his arrival, he laid a wreath at Mausoleum of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. The structure of mausoleum is a cube of 11m x 11m, representing the date of Arafat's death, 11th November 2004.

"Reached Palestine. This is a historic visit that will lead to stronger bilateral cooperation," tweeted PM Modi.

PM Modi is expected to sign five agreements aimed at infrastructure building and employment generation. The emphasis is on nation building through aid and funding developmental projects. Thus, since 2014 India has helped build institutions such as a Techno Park in Ramallah, a Centre of Excellence in ICT in the Gaza Strip, a Digital Learning and Innovation Centre at Al Quds University.
