Pakistan elections: 'My sons' father' next PM, tweets Imran Khan's former wife Jemima

London, July 26: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan's former wife Jemima Goldsmith on Thursday, July 26, tweeted congratulating her "sons' father" as he inched closer to becoming Pakistan's next prime minister.

Although the results of the July 25 general elections were still not confirmed with trends showing Khan's party taking a lead over the rest, Jemima, first wife of the thrice-married former cricketer, tweeted in a haste and congratulated the 65-year-old.

British Jemima, daughter of a tycoon, married Khan in 1995 when he was still to enter politics. Jemima was half the age of Khan at the time of marriage and the two got separated in 2004 over reports that she was not being able to cope with Khan's busy political life in Pakistan.

Khan had cited "geographical problems" and "difficulties of cross cultural marriages" led to their separation. The couple has two sons - Sulaiman and Kasim - who returned to Britain with Jemima after the separation of their parents.

In her tweet, Jemima also recalled the hurdles Khan faced during his political journey and the humiliations he faced. "It's an incredible lesson in tenacity, belief & refusal to accept defeat. The challenge now is to remember why he entered politics in the 1st place," she said.

Khan got married twice more, with his latest marriage with Bushra Maneka happening this year.

Meanwhile, in an electoral affair which is looking increasingly messy, the final results were yet to be confirmed with the opponents of the PTI claiming that the poll was completely rigged. The election panel cited technical glitches for the delay in the confirmation of thr results while the supporters of the PTI were already in a mood to celebrate.
