Pakistan has claimed that it was given a three month reprieve by the Financial Action Task Force. The FATF was deliberating a resolution moved by the United States to place Pakistan on the terror financing watchlist.
In a late night tweet, Khawaja M Asif, Pakistan foreign minister said, "Our efforts paid, FATF Paris 20 Feb meeting conclusion on the US-led motion to put Pakistan on watch list....No consensus for nominating Pakistan, proposing three months pause and asking APG [Asia Pacific Group] for another report to be concluded in June. Grateful to friends who helped."
The media in Pakistan attributed the success to Pakistan's frantic diplomatic efforts. The media while quoting sources said that China, Russia and Turkey opposed the motion that was jointly moved by the US and UK.

It was further stated that the FATF dropped its plan to table the motion for voting in its plenary session starting today as there was no consensus. Further it was stated that Pakistan's move to ban the Jamaat-ud-Dawa related charities run by Hafiz Saeed helped its cause.
However there has been no official word from Washington. A state department official said that he could confirm whether the action had been deferred by three months and added that the deliberations are kept confidential until its made public.
