Orlando shooting: Here is the list of violence at gay venues in US

New Delhi, June 13: Mass shooting at a night club in Orlando is not the first attack on LGBT community in US. Many violent incidents have been carried against the them since 1973.

At least 50 people were killed and more than 50 were injured after 29-year-old man identified as Omar Mateen opened fire at the Pulse nightclub in the worst mass shooting in the history of the US.

The shooter died during a shootout with SWAT team members.

Here is a brief look at violent incidents carried against gay men in US

September 22, 2000: At least one person was killed and six injured when Ronald Gay, who was upset over the slang connotation of his last name, opened fire at the Backstreet Cafe, a gay bar in Roanoke, Virginia.

December 31, 2013: Gasoline was poured in a stairway at a decades-old gay nightclub and set it on fire when hundreds of people were busy for a New Year's Eve celebrations.

March 1, 2009: Patron of a gay bar was injured in Galveston, Texas when brothers Lawrence Henry Lewis and Lawrneil Henry Lewis and their cousin Alejandro Sam Gray hurled chunks of concrete on him.

October 7, 1998: The horrific killing of Matthew Shepard in 1998 is considered as one of the worst anti-gay hate crimes in American history. Matthew was beaten by two assailants.

February 21, 1997: A bombing took place at Otherside Lounge, a lesbian bar in Atlanta. At least five people were injured in the bombing.

November 27, 1978: San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and City Supervisor Harvey Milk, one of the country's first openly gay elected officials, were shot to death inside City Hall.

June 24, 1973: At least 32 people were killed in an arson attack at the Upstairs Lounge, a gay bar in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana.
