Not all ‘American Dreams’ are lost: STAR Sunny Pawar returns home after Oscars acclaim
Mumbai, March 1: One Indian who was hailed, loved and adored by all at the gala Oscars event recently--hosted at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, California, United States--was little Indian star Sunny Pawar. Sunny (8) stars in the highly-acclaimed film, Lion. The film based on the true life events of Saroo Brierley--an Indian--who as a child went missing and later adopted by an Australian couple. The film also stars Indian-origin actor Dev Patel, who played the role of grown-up Saroo.
Sunny, who enacted the part of young Saroo, has become a star in the Hollywood because of his acting chops. In all the international award functions, hosted in recent times, Sunny was welcomed as a 'hero' by actors, directors, critics, presenters and movie buffs. In fact, many feel that Sunny should have at least got an Oscar nomination for his powerful portrayal of young Saroo.
After returning to Mumbai from the US on Wednesday, Sunny told reporters, "I am really happy and I really enjoyed attending the Oscars ceremony." Like her son, Sunny's mother, Vasu, too is equally elated about her son's phenomenal success. "I am speechless. I have no words to express my happiness and praise for my son's achievements," Vasu told ANI.
Sunny's achievement has come at a time when Indians in America are facing the wrath of rise of 'hate crimes' in the nation in recent times. We have seen how an Indian-origin techie Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32, was murdered in Kansas, US, last week. His last rites took place in Hyderabad--Srinivas' home town--on Tuesday.
Srinivas and his friend Alok Madasani (32) were shot fire guns by 51-year-old US navy veteran Adam Purinton at a bar in Kansas. Luckily, Alok, who was injured in the attack, survived. American native Ian Grillot (24), who came to the rescue of two Indian men, took bullet shots during the attack. Currently, Ian is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The killing of Srinivas, many believe, is the result of anti-immigrant stand taken by President Donald Trump. In fact, before the attack, the accused verbally abused both Srinivas and Alok and asked them to leave the country. In such a scenario, when many young and aspiring Indians are thinking to abandon their American dreams, success achieved by Sunny in foreign shores brings hope to all.
