Naked gunman opens fire in Tennessee eatery; 4 dead, 4 injured

The United States witnessed yet another instance of gun violence in the early hours of Sunday, April 22, when a nude gunman shot four persons dead and injured at least four at a restaurant on the outskirts of Nashville in the state of Tennessee.

Metropolitan Nashville Police Department informed that the tragedy occurred at the Waffle House restaurant in Antioch suburb in the southeast of Nashville.

The police added that a customer snatched the assassin's gun and that the man was nude and ran away. They also said he was white and had short hair, PTI reported.

The police also said the suspect had come in a car registered to Travis Renking, a 29-year-old resident from Morton, a village in Illinois located around 720 kilometres north of Antioch. They said the gunman was wearing nothing but a green jacket and even shed that after committing the crime.

Local media reports said quoting the police that the gunman was carrying an AR-15 assault rifle - a weapon popular with mass shooters in the US.

The US recently saw massive demonstrations by youngsters and also by Hollywood stars demanding strict gun control after a shooter Nikolas Cruz opened fire on his former high school in Florida with an AR-15 rifle, killing 17 students besides staff members.

The local residents were asked to lock themselves up in their houses as the gunman was on the run.

"Keep your doors locked, keep your eyes open. If you see this individual -- if you see a nude guy walking around this morning -- call the police department immediately," CNN quoted police spokesman Don Aaron as saying.

In the meantime, a poll conducted by ABC News/Washington Poll revealed on Friday, April 20, that support for a ban on assault weapons has gone up sharply over the last few months.
