Miss Universe Japan faces criticism for not being 'Japanese enough'
Tokyo, March 27: 20-year-old Miss Universe contestant Ariana Miyamoto is facing criticism from the people of her country who say she is not "Japanese enough".
The reason behind her non-Japanese looks can be due to her father, who is an African-American man from Arkansas. Her mother is a Japanese.
The mixed-race beauty race beauty pageant winner was crowned Miss Nagasaki early this year.
According to reports, Miyamoto grew up in the city of Sasebo near a major US naval base and later went to US to study in high school.
That's why she drew lot of flak for not being Japanese enough.
While talking to CNN, Miyamoto said, "In school people used to throw rubbish at me. They also used racial slurs."
However, the mixed-race beauty also garnered huge support from many people across the world.
