Meet the florist who helped arresting the Charleston suspect
South Carolina, June 19: Debbie Dills was running late for work and was speeding on US 74 when she thought she spotted Dylann Roof. The 21-year old who was wanted for the Charleston murder was driving his black Hyundai Elantra, heading west.
Dills, a florist by profession, did not hesitate to call her boss and inform him about what she had seen. She said,"I saw the pictures of him with the bowl cut. I said, 'I've seen that car for some reason.' I look over, and it's got a South Carolina tag on it. I thought, 'Nah, that's not his car.' Then, I got closer and saw that haircut. I was nervous. I had the worst feeling. Is that him or not him?'
Dills' boss connected her to the police at Shelby, while she started following Roof. "I was scared. I felt bad. I felt really weird. I felt like it was him, but I didn't want it to be him. I thought, please don't let him think I'm following him." Debbie spoke to the police for the first time at 10:32 am and in 20 minutes Roof was arrested.
Roof was then headed back to South Carolina where he will face trial for murder.
