London, July 12: After attending a stormy Nato summit, Donald Trump was set to touch the shores of Britain on Thursday, July 12, for the first time as the US president. However, it was likely that Trump was in for more uneasy times in the UK where the mood is not too friendly towards him and neither has the Brexit drama impressed the Britons, AFP reported.

Trump's four-day trip to the UK will see him meeting Prime Minister Theresa May, who herself is having a torrid time in her own government over the impending Brexit; have tea with Queen Elizabeth II and also spend a private weekend in Scotland. A mass protest has been organised against Trump on Friday, July 13, the report added.

Meanwhile, a poll by YouGov covering 1,648 respondents has said that 77 per cent of Britons had an unfavourable take on the American president, an incumbent whose one-and-year tenure so far has seen more controversies than not, the AFP report said.

Conducted this week, the poll said while 74 per cent perceived the man as sexist, 63 per cent found him a racist, the report added.

The relation between the two trans-Atlantic allies has seen a bumpy ride in recent times but despite that, the British government hoped to make a quick trade agreement with the US after it goes out of the European Union.

May, who faced flak over the UK's ties with the US when the Trump administration was under serious criticism over its controversial immigration policies, reiterated that the UK did not have an alliance stronger than that with the US and things will remain so in the days to come, the AFP report added.

The US, too, was hoping to make the agreement with the UK with Washington's ambassador to the UK Woody Johnson saying it will be a "major priority" for the Trump administration, the report added.

The protesters have planned flying a giant balloon of Trump depicted as a baby crying in its nappies next to the British Parliament on Friday and the protest initiative has been named 'Trump Baby', the AFP report said.

Trump's hardline policies and emphasis on 'America First' has angered the Britons. His acts of sharing three inflammatory anti-Muslim videos posted by the far-right Britain First group or criticising Britain's anti-terror policies have also not gone down well with the European nation.

Britain's Opposition members had also asked PM May to cancel a state visit offered to the US when she met Trump in Washington after the latter took path in January 2017. The lawmakers even had the support of an online petition signed by nearly 2 million people wanting May to avoid the US's company over Trump's executive order on immigration.

Trump will head to Helsinki from the UK where he will meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for their first summit on July 16. Before embarking on his current trip, Trump said Putin was the easiest of all for him to meet, making his disliking for Washington's old allies evident.
