Japan observes 71st anniversary of Hiroshima Day

Hiroshima, Aug 6: Japan on Saturday (Aug 6) marked the 71st anniversary of the nuking of the city of Hiroshima by the US. The far-eastern country had fallen following the two devastating attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, three days later on Aug 9. [Nagasaki observes 71st anniversary of nuclear bombing]

Japan, one of the Axis Powers in the Second World War along with Hitler's Germany and Mussolini's Italy, had surrenderd on August 15, 1945.

It was around 8.15 am on August 6 that the American B-29 bomber Enola Gay dropped the bomb called "Little Boy" on the western Japanese city, reducing it to ashes and killing several thousands besides leaving the future generation endangerd because of the deadly radiations. Hiroshima mayor Kazumi Matsui on the occasion urged the world to unite towards the cause of abolishing nuclear weapons and also said the city strongly stood against tolerating the 'absolute evil' and President Obama's words showed that.
