Jail-themed restaurant in China finds biz slump since not many are liking ‘behind bars’ ambience
Beijing, Jan 21: Restaurants nowadays come up with unique themes to attract more footfalls. From under-the-water ones to 'only nude' customers, there are several types of restaurants from across the globe that make the headlines often. There is also one in the city of Xi'an in Shaanxi province in central China which is themed on prison cell (gives uneasy feelings?) where the visitors can relish food in a 'behind-the-bars' ambience.
The vicarious experience of a life of a prisoner, however, might not have convinced many people as the owner of the restaurant has found the business to be gradually decreasing after about a year. The eatery, decorated with iron chains, prison uniforms and dull bunk beds remains quite empty nowadays for the customers might have started feeling that eating "prison food" is not really a special experience, Shanghaiist reported.
This is, however, not the first time that China has come up with a prison-themed restaurant. In 2014, a similar restaurant was opened in the city of Tianjin and its owner had said that he had created a concept to remind the visitors to cherish freedom in their own lives, the report added.
Indeed, they are exercising their freedom to eat and the owner of the unit in Xi'an is finding that.
