ISIS in Israel: Is the Hamas on its way out?
The group in question is the Sheikh Omar Hadeed Brigade which is a known affiliate of the ISIS.
The Omar Hadeed Brigade operates in the Gaza strip and has been cozy with the ISIS. With the help of the ISIS and being part of the group, the Omar Hadeed Birgade feels it could up the ante.
The latest attacks suggest that the ISIS wants to play a role in Israel as well. Ashdod is the beginning and there is more to come the ISIS affiliated group warned.
Pointing weapons at Israel:
While security analysts say that the ISIS will find the going tough in Israel, the threat is still imminent. The ISIS backed groups have clearly stated that all their weapons are pointed towards Israel. While Israel would have its task cut out in dealing with this ISIS threat, the Hamas too is not happy with this development.
The reason behind this sudden surge of attacks by the ISIS is aimed at gaining control over more territory. Israel and the Gaza strip have been emotive issues and the ISIS feels that it could sway a lot of youth in this area.
In addition to this any attack on Israel will also rope in youth across the world into the fold of the ISIS. Most recruitment drives into terrorist groups across the world are done by quoting Israel and they are portrayed as the biggest enemies of Islam.
What does Hamas do now?
So far the Hamas has been in the forefront in the war against Israel. However this new development in which the ISIS is making an entry into Israel will not please the Hamas. The group is already facing a major crisis.
The Hamas along with its ally the Islamic Jihad has been fast losing out on a support base. Moreover both the groups are also running out allies. The Hamas also lost support from the Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammad Morsi. To make matters worse, the Islamic Jihad an ally of the Hamas has fallen out with its prime sponsor, Iran.
The Hamas in addition to all its woes is losing out on the support from the Palestine people as well. The people are tired of the war and the fact that 2000 people were killed in the past one year has only made matters worse. The people are gradually moving away from the Hamas as they find that the outfit is fighting a losing battle.
The ISIS finds this to be an opportune time to enter into Hamas territory and make good use of the situation. The ISIS will continue to back groups such as the Omar Hadeed Brigade which is in desperate need of support in the form of arms and money. The ISIS will only be too happy to support its proxies in the region.
