Imran Khan takes oath as 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan

Islamabad, Aug 18: Imran Khan took oath as 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan on Saturday around three weeks after his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf emerged as the single-largest party in the country's election.

Kahn was administered the oath of office by President Mamnoon Hussain at a simple ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr (the President House) in Islamabad. The ceremony commenced with the national anthem, followed by recitation of verses from the Holy Quran.

Imran Khan's wife Bushra Maneka was present.

Khan won a simple majority in Pakistan's National Assembly with 176 votes, beating his rival Shahbaz Sharif who got 96 votes.

As a politician, Khan's vision is to turn Pakistan into a just society, based on humane values, by creating an independent and honest judiciary that will uphold democracy, protect human rights and ensure the rule of law and, by promoting a merit-based system that provides equal opportunity to all, according to Khan's profile on his party's website.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was invited by Imran Khan, met Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa at Imran Khan's oath-taking ceremony. Sidhu was seated next to President of PoK Masood Khan at the ceremony.
