How CIA used the Samsung smart TV to spy on you

The smart TV became a secret microphone with a codename called "Weeping Angels." British spies in fact helped the CIA find a way to convert the smart TV into a microphone. The MI5 worked with the CIA to develop a software that convinced people that their television sets were off. However the TV was on and recording every word that was said.

WikiLeaks revealed that once the software was installed the owner would think that his TV was off. However it is on with a blank screen with the standby light on. The victim's conversation would then be recorded and the same would be sent to the CIA's servers.

WikiLeaks claimed the haul, which it termed as Vault 7, Year Zero, exposed the hacking tool kit. The Vault 7 focused on how the CIA steals data from targets and turns devices such as mobile phones, computers and even TVs into surveillance tools.

In a statement issued by WikiLeaks it said the attack against Samsung smart TVs was developed in cooperation with the United Kingdom's MI5/BTSS. In the Fake Off mode, the TV operates as a bug, recording conversations in a room and sent them over the internet to a CIA.
