EU parliamentarian lauds India for appointing Dineshwar Sharma as J&K interlocutor
A member of European Parliament on Monday lauded India's decision of appointing Dineshwar Sharma as interlocutor for Kashmir as another step to connect with Kashmiris, with the objective of bringing peace to the region.
Petras Auštrevicius, Member of the European Parliament, slammed Pakistan for terrorising Jammu and Kashmir, ANI quoted an EP Today article as saying.
He said,''sadly, but as expected, Pakistan and its political proxies in Jammu and Kashmir have rejected all interaction with the newly appointed interlocutor, leaving no doubt about their motives and intentions."
Auštrevicius further mentioned that EU should focus now on enhancing its cooperation with India in areas like foreign and security affairs, and supports its efforts to bring peace to Kashmir, while also boosting its exchanges in trade, education, culture and scientific research.
On October 23, Sharma was appointed by the Centre to initiate dialogue with elected representatives of the state, political parties, different organisations and residents of the state.
Sharma is an officer from the 1979 Indian Police Service batch and the former director of the Intelligence Bureau. He has been the interlocutor for talks with rebel groups in Manipur and Assam, as well.
