English-speaking parrot, missing for 4 years, comes back chattering in Spanish !
According to a Telegraph report, the parrot, Nigel, was found by a Southern California veterinarian who mistook it for her own missing pet bird. When checked, Nigel's microchip tracked to Darren Chick, a Briton who lives in Torrance, said the report.
The veterinarian contacted Chick and asked him if he had lost a bird. Perplexed, Chick said he had lost a African grey parrot four years ago. Thus the reunion happened. Chick was overwhelmed to see Nigel again, but the bird seemed to have forgotten Chick and bit him when he first tried to pick him up.
Although no one knows where the bird was in those four years, the bird's British accent is clearly gone. Chick says Nigel chatters in Spanish now. Also, he now frequently calls for someone called Larry.
When found in a garden, "Nigel was singing and talking without control... He was barking like the dogs. I'm from Panama and he was saying, 'What happened?' in Spanish", said the veterinarian, who has been running ads for her missing bird for past nine months.
Interestingly, Nigel is the fifth parrot the veterinarian reunited with the real owner in the pursuit of her own bird.
