Einstein's letters on science and humanity sold for $420,000


Los Angeles, June 13: Albert Einstein's letters on life and science were auctioned for a total of $420,000. Totalling 27 in number, the letters include his view of God and his relationship with man, the world wars, on Nazism and other personal matters.

A letter to one of his sons in 1945, in particular, was the centre of attraction where he explained the theory of relativity and its link to the atomic bombs that were dropped at Hiroshima Nagasaki. Two of his other letters that were written in 1940 explained his thoughts on ways of life and the connection between man and God.These fetched $28,125 and $34,375.

Nazism and McCarthyism were some of the other topics that Einstein discussed.

Joseph Maddalena, the founder of 'Profiles in History' said that the letters were collected across several years by a seller who wishes to remain anonymous. However, they were purchased by various people.
