Donald Trump tweets about call with Chinese President Xi on North Korea
US President Donald Trump spoke with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and briefed him on developments in ties with North Korea.
Trump tweeted that he and Xi spoke about that agreed-to meeting and that Xi "appreciates that the US is working to solve the problem diplomatically rather than going with the ominous alternative."
Chinese President XI JINPING and I spoke at length about the meeting with KIM JONG UN of North Korea. President XI told me he appreciates that the U.S. is working to solve the problem diplomatically rather than going with the ominous alternative. China continues to be helpful!

"The two leaders welcomed the prospect of dialogue between the United States and North Korea, and committed to maintain pressure and sanctions until Pyongyang takes tangible steps toward complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearisation," the White House said in a readout of the call.
Trump has spoken with a number of world leaders after he was briefed on North Korean by the visiting South Korean national security adviser.
He had earlier reached out to French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, during which the leaders agreed to continue to maintain pressure on North Korea.
