A day after Giuliani unlocks mystery, Trump accepts that he repaid money for Daniels

US President Donald Trump was eventually undone by Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor and veteran lawyer who recently joined the president's legal team to settle the allegations of him having collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election fast.

Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump

On Thursday, May 3, Trump admitted in a tweet that he repaid his lawyer Michael Cohen for paying $130,000 to adult actress Stormy Daniels who allegedly had a sexual relationship with the president more than a decade ago. According to Daniels, the money was paid to shut her mouth ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

Trump had been rubbishing the claims which he said "false and extortionist" and also said last month that he did not have any knowledge about Cohen paying the money to Daniels.

Trump, however, said in a series of a tweet that the hush money paid to Daniels had no links with his election campaign and said it was a "private agreement". He also defended himself saying non-disclosure agreements were very common among celebrities and rich people.

Trump's U-turn on the issue came after Giuliani, 73, said in an interview to Fox News on Wednesday, May 2, that Trump had indeed reimbursed Cohen for the payment over a long period.

He said that the money had been funnelled through the law firm and Trump repaid it and also said that it had not violated any law. Giuliani said the same in another interview to the Wall Street Journal.

In April, a raid was also conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Cohen's residence, hotel and office room in which information related to the payment was reportedly taken away. Trump expressed his annoyance over the episode then.
