Donald Trump meets NYT publisher and it leads to a controversy

Washington, July 30: US President Donald Trump on Sunday, July 29, revealed in a tweet his meeting with AG Sulzberger, publisher of The New York Times and it led to a public clash, showing the ugly equation that the president has with the mainstream media yet again.

Trump said in his tweet that his talks with Sulzberger were "very good and interesting" though the latter's statement issued later said another story.

In a lengthy statement, Sulzberger said that he expressed his worry over Trump's "deeply troubling anti-press rhetoric" and it was "eroding" America's commitment to media's liberty and free speech.

"I told the president directly that I thought that his language was not just divisive but increasingly dangerous. I told him that although the phrase "fake news" is untrue and harmful, I am far more concerned about his labeling journalists "the enemy of the people," Sulzberger said (read his full statement her) (https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/29/trump-meets-with-nyts-sulzberger-who-hits-deeply-anti-press-talk.html).

Trump, who said in his earlier tweet that during the talks with Sulzberger, the two discussed "the vast amounts of fake news, and how that Fake News has morphed into phrase, 'Enemy of the People.'"

Later in the day, the president the New York Times and The Washington Post in a series of tweets, blaming both as "anti-Trump haters" who are "do nothing but write bad stories even on very positive achievements - they will never change!"
