Islamabad, July 26: Even as Imran Khan's party surge ahead in the poll counting, Nawaz Sharif's party PML-N claimed that the whole polling process was rigged.

Shehbaz Sharif

"The mandate of the millions of people who came out to vote has been humiliated. Our democratic process has been pushed back by decades. Had the public mandate been delivered in a fair manner, we would have accepted it happily," said PMLN chief Shahbaz Sharif.

He said that till a short while ago, results for not even a single seat in Lahore, his stronghold, had been declared. "We have videos from Dera Ghazi Khan, where women and children are kept in custody. There are reports coming in from Karachi as well," Sharif, the outgoing Chief Minister of Punjab, said.

According to Geo TV, Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf was leading on 110 seats followed by PML-N on 68. Bilawal Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party was ahead on 37 seats and Independents on 23, trends showed.

"This is a horrible situation which I have never seen in my 30-year political career. These were the dirtiest polls in Pakistan's history. The results of several constituencies have been withheld where PML-N candidates were winning. We will not accept this justice," Sharif said.

PML-N senator Mushahid Hussain Syed too raised similar doubts on the election results.

"This is the first time in Pakistan's history that five political parties have called a foul play in the polls and termed them massively rigged," he said. A party can form the government if it manages to clinch 172 seats out of the total 342. A single party will need at least 137 of the 272 directly-elected seats to be able to form the government on its own.

PPP'sBilawal Bhutto has also contested the results.

Taking to twitter Bhutto wrote "It's now past midnight & I haven't received official results from any constituency I am contesting my myself. My candidates complaining polling agents have been thrown out of polling stations across the country. Inexcusable & outrageous."
