China: Newborn elephant sobs for 5 hours after rejected by mother
Beijing, Sept 15: In a rare case of expressing emotions, a newly-born elephant cried inconsolably for five hours after he was abandoned and attacked by his own mother at the Shendiaoshan wild animal reserve in Rong-cheng in eastern China.
The "emotional" incident drew the world's attention as the baby calf named as 'Zhuang-zhuang' literally 'sobbed' under a blanket. Big tears rolling down at his cheeks could be seen, as the zookeepers described the heartbreaking incident, that took place on September 13.
According to Metro report, the baby elephant was rescued and treated as he got injuries after his violent mother stepped on him.
Now, he has been kept away from his mother so that she cannot attack him again and he is reportedly "doing fine now".
A zookeeper at the wildlife park said, "The calf was very upset and he was crying for five hours before he could be consoled".
"He couldn't bear to be parted from his mother and it was his mother who was trying to kill him", he added.
