Chhota Rajan pleads to be deported to Zimbabwe, not India: Scared of death or meant business?
Bali, Oct 29: The hunter has been hunted and now faces the same fear that hundreds faced when he planned the Mumbai blasts in 1993.
Gangster Chhota Rajan pleaded the Bali police to deport him to Zimbabwe and not India, fearing threat to his life. In an interview with a renowned newspaper, he is said to have confessed to Bali CID officer Major Reinhard that he may be killed in India.
Reinhard said," When we took him for interrogation, initially, he refused to accept that he was Chhota Rajan. He kept on flashing his passport which mentioned his name as Mohan Kumar. But, later confessed that he indeed is Chhota Rajan." He also quoted Rajan as saying,"There is a threat to my life in India, please take me to Zimbabwe."
A different story
However, inside sources reveal a different story altogether. It is said that he wanted to get deported to Zimbabwe only because of business interests in diamonds, which run into Rs 1,000 crore. Apart from Zimbabwe, he has business interests in China, Thailand and of course India, which could be easily worth Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 crore.
Dossier on Rajan soon:
The Mumbai police have informed the Home Ministry that they would be preparing a fresh dossier on Rajan. There is already one dossier on him which lists out his crimes including the 25 murders that he has committed. However, with his arrest, there would be a fresh dossier on him prepared. The dossier would list out his properties and business interests, so that efforts can be made by the Indian government to seal or seize them.
His business interests are big says a police officer. He has relied heavily on the jewellery business and has a chain of stores in Thailand, China and also in India. There are properties too which are in his name and all this would be part of the dossier, the official also informed. However his biggest business interest is in Zimbabwe where he has a diamond business.
The police say that apart from this, he owns a hotel in China and also three jewellery shops in Singapore. There are business interests in Jakarta as well the police point out. In India the police are ascertaining his properties and would soon note them down in the dossier, the police official also pointed out.
Upon his arrest he had told the police at Bali that he would leave for Zimbabwe. However the police who were aware of the red corner alert against him did not give in to his demand and instead informed the Indian authorities immediately about the arrest.
The past and the present
Previously Rajendra Nikalje, Chhota Rajan has been in the hit list of the Interpol on various cases of extortion, arms smuggling and contract killing. He was living in Sydney for 2-3 years and maintaining a very low profile. On tuesday, a high level meeting including the RAW, IB, the home ministry and the PMO was held that discussed ways to bring him back to India.
CBI director Anil Sinha said,"We tracked Chhota Rajan's movements closely and informed the police in Indonesia and Australia. Eventually the Indonesian police managed to arrest him. We are making arrangements to bring him to India and pursue all criminal cases against him."
