Shocking: Woman sent home for not wearing high heels at work in London, approaches parliament

London, May 14: A woman employee of a corporate finance company who was sent home after she refused to wear high heels at work, has petitioned the British Parliament to make it illegal to force women to wear them, media reported.

Her petition has generated more than 110,000 signatures in a matter of days. The government is yet to take call on her petition.

Woman sent home for not wearing heels

She was laughed at when she raised that her male colleagues were not required to do the same.

The 27-years old Nicola Thorp, employed as a temporary worker by PwC's outsourced reception firm Portico, was told to leave office when she refused to wear high heels on her arrival at finance company PwC.

Nicola Thorp, a receptionist from Hackney, she was sent home without pay in December last year.

"I was expected to do a nine-hour shift on my feet escorting clients to meeting rooms. I said 'I just won't be able to do that in heels'," Thorp was quoted as saying by BBC.
