Male, Sept 6: In a bizarre 'detention', the Maldivian police has detained a coconut ahead of presidential elections over suspicion of vote-rigging claims, in an attempt to influence voting.

According to a report, police took into its possession the "cursed coconut" after allegations of black-magic over it.

On Tuesday morning, Maldivian police found the coconut, termed as 'young' near a school at the Guraidhoo Island, one of the polling-station, where voting is scheduled to take place on the election day.

During the probe, the police summoned a white magician, who declared the coconut as "innocent".

The 'young' coconut was found 'innocent' by a magician.

Magician was called to establish whether the coconut was cursed with black magic or not. The police, who cracked the case, then, made no arrests.

In Maldives, coconuts are reportedly used to perform black magic rituals in the strictly Islamic nation.

The incumbent President Mohamed Waheed will be contesting in the presidential polls with his main rival, former president and leader of the Maldives Democratic Party Mohammad Nasheed.
