From vivacious beaches and elegant rooftop bars to peaceful, traditional celebrations, there is an abundance of choice in this region. We have mentioned some of the best places in Southeast Asia to spend the evening of 31 December.
Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Thailand
These two places in Thailand are known for some of the most memorable New Year's celebrations, but they differ vastly in style.
If you are a fan of fireworks, then Bangkok is where you need to be. Make a reservation in one of the hotels by the Chao Phraya River, which offer the best view of extravagant fireworks filling the sky with magnificent colours and patterns. You can even use your credit card to make dinner reservations in luxury hotels or dinner cruises which operate specifically on the river. Exceptional food with breathtaking fireworks by the river - what more can you ask for?, If you dont have any, buy it online here.
For a quieter celebration, head to Chiang Mai. Even though the event is marked with fireworks and revelries, the main highlight here is the releasing of lanterns into the sky. As thousands of candles illuminate the dark sky, one can't help but be amazed by the sheer greatness of such a breathtaking sight. This is certainly a welcoming change from the usual NYE celebrations.
Singapore
Singapore is well known for its New Years' Eve festivities and it is something that ought to be experienced at least once in a lifetime. Marina Bay offers a dazzling view of the fireworks show, which attracts thousands of visitors every year.
For a more royal experience, stay at the Marina Bay Sands. Each room comes with a marvelous view which is bound to leave you astonished. You can use your credit card to make reservations at one of the parties which take place on top of the three towers. These rooftop NYE parties are out of this world as they offer a view of the entire city in the backdrop of a stunning fireworks show.
Bali, Indonesia
If you are truly looking to party like there is no tomorrow, then you cannot find a better place than the tropical island of Bali. You can escape the December cold and head to this paradise, where the weather is relatively warm and the place is buzzing with tourists and backpackers alike.
In Bali, Legian, Seminyak and Kuta are three of the most popular regions. They are marked by never ending beaches, each with an equally magnificent view of the Indian Ocean. The NYE celebrations start in the afternoon itself, with plenty of beach and street parties taking place throughout the island.
In case you find yourself with a demented hangover after a night of heavy partying, you cannot find a better cure than the heavenly beaches that Bali has to offer. Make sure you have your travel insurance papers in order, in case anything goes wrong.
Seoul, South Korea
Seoul is one of the few places on the list that is guaranteed to fulfil your party needs, no matter what they may be.
Koreans believe that ringing of bells on NYE marks the end of a year and it also wishes happiness and prosperity to its citizens. To celebrate this event grandly, an annual New Year's Eve ritual is held at the Bosingak - a historic bell pavilion. The bell is rung only at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve and the ceremony is attended by thousands.
After witnessing the bell ringing ceremony, you may attend the Homigot Sunrise Festival, which is again held only on the New Year's Eve. The visitors here are invited to watch the sunrise on the first day of the year, along with enjoying traditional delicacies and a series of exciting programs.
Alternately, you can also enjoy the fireworks in the city from any of the happening places in town. For the best view however, the Floating Bar is where you need to be. You can also visit the Griffin Bar, which offers the best view of the city along with the iconic N Seoul Tower.
You can even visit the Gangnam district that are lined up with plenty of restaurants and bars, each with their own NYE parties.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur is regarded as one of the best cities in Asia for an electrifying New Year's Eve experience. The city is marked by plenty of high-rise buildings, the most notable which are the Petronas Twin Towers.
To enjoy New Year's fireworks, head to one of the many rooftop restaurants which offer a fascinating view of the entire city. You can also make reservations at the revolving restaurant on top of the KL Tower, which offers a 360-degree view of the entire city.
You can also consider visiting the KLCC Park, which is transformed into a party venue for the NYE. The midnight is marked by a grand fireworks set, and is truly among the best places to be in Asia for the New Year's Eve.
Wherever you may be for the celebrations, we wish you a Happy New Year!
